Point it, then wait for DNS.

How to add an external domain and configure the domain provider to receive traffic on an environment hosted on fortrabbit.

1. Tell fortrabbit about your domain

First, add your domain to your fortrabbit environment in the dashboard to generate the DNS records you'll need.

  1. Click New > "Add a new domain" and follow the steps
  2. Choose a domain name and an environment
  3. Keep the overview tab open to copy the desired DNS settings

2. Point the domain to fortrabbit

Update your domain provider's DNS settings using the records generated in your fortrabbit dashboard to route traffic to fortrabbit.

  • For sub domains like www, use the CNAME record
  • Apex domains get an A record for forwarding
  • Leave any other records untouched, especially MX
  • Remove any AAAA records (IPV6)

Save the settings with your domain provider and wait for DNS propagation. This depends on the TTL settings of your DNS records and typically takes up to 6 hours.
